PALESSE is the Belarusian name for "Polesia" - it is a natural and historical region and one of the largest forest areas on the continent spread from Poland, over Belarus, Ukraine, until Russia. Large parts of the region were contaminated after the Chernobyl disaster and the region now includes the Chernobyl Exclusion Zone.
